Tennis
Life is like a game of tennis; the player who serves well seldom loses. - anon.
Both Blairgowrie Tennis Club and Rattray Tennis Club celebrated their centenary in 2020.
Rattray Tennis Club has been located at Middle Road, Rattray, PH107EL since it first opened and now boasts 2 floodlit blaes courts and a Clubhouse. The Club joined the Lawn Tennis Association in 2018.
In 1920 Blairgowrie Tennis Club opened at Altamount, now the location of a retirement apartments complex, with 3 blaes courts and a small pavilion. Following a relocation in 2016 to the J.J. Coupar Recreation Park, Coupar Angus Road, Blairgowrie PH10 6TR it now has 5 all weather floodlit courts which are open all year round. These facilities now meet with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) competition standards.
Steve Cumming writes a full history of both clubs in 'A Social History of Blairgowrie and Rattray' edited and compiled by Margaret Laing.
