Our Heritage Blairgowrie & Rattray - Exhibitions

In the two years following the creation of Our Heritage Group at the end of 2017, it has hosted no less than six pop-up exhibitions in Blairgowrie Library. These were designed as a demonstration of the ambition to create a permanent heritage centre for the town, to demonstrate the community’s hunger for such a centre and as a means of marking the town’s rich history and cultural identity.

Our Heritage enjoyed the active support of both the management of Culture Perth and Kinross and critically that of the local librarian and his staff. Each event was held over a long weekend at the Blairgowrie Library and in some cases spilled into the adjacent council car park.

Each exhibition had a separate theme:

  • A Really Interesting Experience being the first over Easter in 2018
  • The Mills, Berries and Cherries and Farming
  • Lest we Forget (Nov 2018)
  • Transport
  • Tales from the Riverbank
  • Famous Sons and Daughters (Nov 2019)

Volunteers and contributors from individuals, many local organisations, and significant contributions by our local schools, ensured the success of the exhibitions, the six events attracted well over 2,000 individual visits.

Further exhibitions have not been possible due inevitably to the pandemic but Our Heritage plans to hold similar events once the situation allows. Two themes have been selected for the future: - Entertainment and Education. Look out for future announcements on our website, social media and local press.
